Valencian Community with your dog

🏅 Ranked 3 in our Top 10 Spanish regions to travel with a dog

Quick answer

The Valencian Community pairs Spain's verified rail options with the Mediterranean coast: Valencia is one of Iryo's listed large-dog origin stations, and Renfe's 40 kg scheme covers its AVE and Media Distancia services. Chains with published pet programs are verified in our directory (NH, B&B Hotels), Baleària runs ferries to the Balearics with published pet options, and beach access is municipal and seasonal: check each town's current ordinance.

Getting there with your dog

By rail, Valencia Joaquín Sorolla is an origin station for Iryo's large-dog service (40 EUR, phone booking, signed declaration 1.5 hours before), and Renfe's Dogs up to 40 kg extra applies on AVE, Avlo, Larga Distancia, Avant and Media Distancia. Cercanías trains take pets free with leash and muzzle, the general Cercanías rule. By sea, Baleària publishes pet options per ship and route to the Balearics. Flying, the cabin rules and fees for Iberia, Vueling and Air Europa are in our cabin guide.

Where to sleep

NH and B&B Hotels publish pet programs verified in our directory, and Paradores lists which of its properties admit pets. Per-hotel conditions always apply: close every booking with the 5 written questions from our Spain hotels guide, and ask about terrace areas if you plan to eat out with the dog.

Verified dog-access beaches

Only the ones we checked on the council's own site, with the date. The list grows as we verify more, and municipal rules change with the season.

Agua Amarga beach Alicante

North of Urbanova beach in Alicante. The city tourist board presents it as the city's dog-friendly beach.

  • Dogs classed as dangerous must wear a muzzle and be held. Aggressive or unsocialised dogs may not enter.
  • Dogs in heat, ill or puppies may not enter, and under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Keep the dog under control, pick up waste immediately and do not let it dig.
  • The board says it has services adapted for dogs during the summer season, so check what is open outside it.

Pending confirmation

They exist, but the council's site publishes no current information we can verify. We keep them visible with what we did find and its date, so you can call before going.

Playa Can, Pinedo ValenciaUnconfirmed

Pinedo beach, reached from its seafront promenade by a dedicated walkway.

  • The council press releases we found describe hours of 9.30 to 19.30 and a perimeter fenced on the sand and buoyed at sea.
  • It required a change to the municipal beach ordinance to allow dogs, and was first set up in 2017.
  • Careful: the most recent municipal information we located is from 2023, so we do not present it as current. Check the council before going.

Frequently asked questions

Can my large dog take the train to Valencia?

Yes, two verified ways: Renfe's Dogs up to 40 kg extra (40 EUR on AVE, Avlo and Larga Distancia, the price of a general-fare ticket on Avant and Media Distancia, online up to 24 hours before), and Iryo's large-dog service from Valencia Joaquin Sorolla (40 EUR, booked by phone with a signed declaration 1.5 hours before departure).

Can I take the ferry to the Balearics with my dog from the mainland?

Baleària publishes pet options per ship and route (pet cabins on some routes, kennels on others) on Baleària's page, verified in our directory. Check your specific route's option before booking.

Are dogs allowed on Valencian beaches?

It is decided beach by beach by each town hall and changes with the season. Check the current municipal ordinance of the specific beach: we publish verified beach lists only as we check them. The ones we have already checked are in the list on this page.

Which hotel chains in the region publish pet conditions?

NH and B&B Hotels publish pet programs verified in our directory, and Paradores lists its pet-admitting properties. Conditions vary per hotel: ask the 5 written questions before booking.

What do I do with my dog at museums or indoor sights that do not admit dogs?

Museums, monuments and most indoor venues do not admit dogs (assistance-dog rules are a separate track). The practical option is hourly sitters: our directory lists verified marketplaces like Rover and Gudog, with prices set by each sitter. Book ahead in high season.

Can I leave my dog alone in the hotel room?

It depends on the property: admission is per hotel and leaving a dog alone in the room is often forbidden or limited. Ask in writing before booking, it is one of the 5 questions in our Spain hotels guide, and for long visits check the hourly sitters in our directory.
