Verified dog-access beaches in Spain

Quick answer

Right now we have checked beaches with dog access in 7 cities, on their council's website. We also publish 1 verified ban, because they save fines, and 1 beach pending confirmation. This is not a census of Spain: we verify one by one and we say so when we have not looked.

Bens beach A Coruna · Galicia

Dog beach all year, and the only one in the city: the summer ban applies to the rest.

Careful on the city's other beaches: On A Coruna's other beaches, article 9 bans dogs and other pets from 1 June to 30 September, and outside that period it does not ban them. The council may designate dog areas, temporary or permanent, where dogs can be off leash regardless of the time of year, signposted at the main accesses. The same article authorises rescue dogs and assistance dogs trained in officially recognised centres.

Molinucos and Segunda del Sardinero Santander · Cantabria

Molinucos allows dogs 24 hours and off leash, and Segunda del Sardinero only from 20.30 to 23.30 in summer.

Careful with the document's date: The code of conduct the council publishes is the one signed in July 2025 and we have found no 2026 version, although its title carries no year and describes the 1 June to 30 September season. The Segunda del Sardinero time window is the easiest thing to change from one year to the next: confirm it before going.

Mazarron: Las Cobaticas, Las Moreras and El Gachero Mazarron · Murcia

Three municipal dog beaches, and the leaflet describes Las Moreras as suitable for walking your pet at any time of year.

The leaflet's fines do not match the ordinance it cites: If you need the exact figure, ask the council. The leaflet announces fines of 750 to 3,001 EUR citing the municipal animal-keeping ordinance, and the text of that ordinance published on its site, approved in 2003, sets fines of 60 to 450 EUR by severity in article 38. Three explanations fit and we cannot choose between them: the leaflet may refer to another rule (the ordinance itself points to Law 50/1999 and Law 10/1990), the published PDF may be outdated after 23 years, or the leaflet may be wrong. Both documents are linked below.

Bans we have verified

A beach missing here does not mean it bans dogs, it means we have not checked it. And a ban in one city says nothing about the others in its region.

San Sebastian beaches San Sebastian · País VascoNo access

Dogs banned on all its beaches during the bathing season, with a penalty procedure.

This may change soon: Local press reported in 2026 that the council is processing an amendment to this ordinance to allow dog access all year. We publish only the ordinance in force, the 2007 one: if you travel with a dog, check first whether the amendment has been approved.

Frequently asked questions

How do you verify a beach?

We read the council's own page or ordinance, not aggregators or third-party lists, and publish with the date we checked it. If we only find old information, the beach goes to the pending group, not the verified one. We tell the four cases where the rule did not match what was published in our article on the ordinances.

Are all of Spain's beaches here?

Not remotely. There are thousands of municipal beaches and we verify them one by one, starting with the larger coastal cities. A beach missing here does not mean it bans dogs, it means we have not checked it.

Why publish bans too?

Because knowing where you cannot go saves you a fine. In San Sebastian, for instance, the ordinance bans dogs during the bathing season and breaking it opens a penalty procedure.

How often do you review this?

Every entry carries its check date and a scheduled revalidation before its season starts, because municipal rules change from one year to the next.
